PARTICIPATION RULES

ARTICLE 1 The competition is organized by the cultural association "Progetto Alfa", and aims at the promotion of the full artistic and expressive potential of whoever interested in participating-with no cultural or economic distinction whatsoever. The participation is therefore free and open to everybody, including schools of all types and levels; to this end, the scientific committee involved the Regional School Office (USR) of Sondrio, with particular regard to its students celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of the poet Giovanni Bertacchi.

ARTICLE 2 Competition categories The competition is divided into the following classes: National class UNPUBLISHED POETRY with: CATEGORY "Free Poetry" (1.1) CATEGORY "Theme Poetry" (1.2) "Nature that lives" (environmental awareness) CATEGORY free poetry in "Local Languages ​​of Italy" (1.3) For the above category, poetry written in local languages ​​must be accompanied by a translation in Italian CATEGORY "Theme Poetry" (1.4) Religious CATEGORY Under18 Each participant can send a poem by joining one of the categories listed above. (1.5) National class POETRY EDITED with: CATEGORY "Free Poetry" (2.1) CATEGORY "Theme Poetry" (2.2) "Nature that lives" (environmental awareness) CATEGORY free poetry in "Local Languages ​​of Italy" (2.3) For the above category, poetry written in local languages ​​must be accompanied by a translation in Italian National class STORY, FAIRY TALE, WISE, UNPUBLISHED DIARY: CATEGORY Tale or fable or essay or short diary (3) National class UNPUBLISHED EPISTLES: CATEGORY Free theme epistles (4) National class PUBLISHED VOLUMES: CATEGORY Fiction (5.1) CATEGORY Poetry (5.2) International POETRY class in a foreign language with: CATEGORY "Free Poetry" (6) Lifetime Achievement Award 

National class UNPUBLISHED POETRY: The text must be strictly unpublished (until the day of the award ceremony), that is, have not received regular editorial publication, and not awarded in other literary competitions, under penalty of exclusion from the Prize. Each author can join several categories of the competition and for each of them he must send only one unpublished work in Italian (free verses or metrics). The text of each poem must not exceed one side of the page. National class POETRY EDIT: Each author can join several categories of the competition and for each of them must send only one work published in Italian (free verse or metric). However, the text of each poem must not exceed one side of the page. National class STORY OR FAIRY TALE OR UNPUBLISHED WISE OR DIARY: The section takes part with an elaborate (story, fable, essay, diary) that must not exceed 27,000 characters, spaces included (15 pages made up of 30 lines of 60 characters each with formatting as desired). National class EPISTLES: The text must not exceed one side of the page. National class PUBLISHED VOLUMES: Volume published from 1 January 2000 to 1 January 2020, to be sent in 3 copies. (Exclusive participation on paper works, it is not possible to participate by sending the work by email) International POETRY class with: In class 6 of the competition, the admitted foreign languages ​​are: French, English, German, Spanish, Russian, Polish, Romanian, Dutch, Mandarin, Turkish and Arabic. The foreign language versions must be accompanied by a translation in Italian or English or French. However, the text of each poem must not exceed one side of the page.

ARTICLE 4 VIA-MAIL APPLICATIONS. All applications must be sent in a well-sealed envelope containing:

-2 anonymous copies of the work;

-1 additional sealed envelope containing 1 copy of the work with the author's name, the thoroughly-filled participation form, the translation of the work if needed, in accordance to article 2. A short resume of the author may be attached.

All applications must be delivered no later than August 24th 2020, 12:00 AM UTC+1. "Progetto Alfa" declines all responsibility for any possible postal delays, misdeliveries or other problems. Under no circumstances will applications arriving past the deadline for submission be considered.

ARTICLE  5 The award ceremony of the winners will take place according to the following schedule: October 2020 (date to be assigned), awarding of works and volumes relating to the national competition class. The ceremony will take place in Sondrio. November 2020 (date and place to be assigned), final awarding of poems relating to the international competition class and national competition winners. The ceremony will take place in Rome. Article 6 Application for membership Participation in the Prize implies full and unconditional acceptance of this regulation and the disclosure of your name, surname on any publication. In case of use of a pseudonym, the application form must in any case be filled in with data corresponding to the real identity of the author, under penalty of invalidation of the registration. The Organization, through this adhesion, implicitly acquires the right to freely and freely publish all the pieces deemed suitable. 

ARTICLE 7 Communication of winners The winners, whose names will be announced three weeks before the award ceremony, must collect the prizes awarded personally or by proxy on the date set for the ceremony. Proxy conferred on members of the organization of the competition or on other award winners or accompanying competitors is not allowed. Participants are responsible for inquiring about all updates and / or any changes concerning the Prize, through the website of the Progetto Alfa Association (www.progettoalfa.org). The Organization cannot be held responsible in any case for a failure to communicate. 

ARTICLE 8  In the "unpublished" national poetry competition class 50 finalists will be selected, of which 12 will be proclaimed winners and 8 will receive merit mentions from the Jury; In the "edited" national poetry competition class, 30 finalists will be selected, of which 9 will be proclaimed winners and 6 will receive merit mentions from the Jury; In the story contest class 15 finalists will be selected, of which 3 will be the category winners and 5 will receive merit mentions from the Jury; In the epistles competition class 5 finalists will be selected, of which 3 will be the category winners and 2 will receive merit mentions from the Jury; 20 finalists will be selected in the volume competition (edited), of which 6 will be the category winners and 4 will receive merit mentions from the Jury; In the international competition class 50 finalists will be selected, of which 6 will be the category winners and 4 will receive merit mentions from the Jury; In the category 1.D competition class, 30 finalists will be selected, of which 6 will be the category winners and 4 will receive merit mentions from the Jury. 

ARTICLE 9 All works will be evaluated according to the unquestionable and irrevocable judgment of the committee thus divided: international committee, national committee, and scientific committee for the "Giovanni Bertacchi" section. The members of the committee, among whom one will be appointed secretary, will be designated by the executive board of "Progetto Alfa" and will composed of experts and culturally active people; their names will be published on the website www.progettoalfa.org in the specific section of the contest. For both the National and the International sections, the relative specific committees will influence the result for the 60% of the vote-the scientific committee for the 40%. For the final result (ultimate winner) the National and International committees will influence the vote respectively for the 20%-the scientific committee for the 60%. The scientific committee will be composed of the presidents of the National and International committees, and some well-known personalities in the circle of contemporary Literature. 

Article 10 The winners of the various categories will be rewarded with plaques and scrolls. The final winner, chosen from the works of categories 1 and 6 (Giovanni Bertacchi Prize Winner) together with the winner of category 5, will receive an additional cash prize. 

ARTICLE 11 According to the Italian law D.Lgs. 30.06.2003 n. 196 "Codice in materia di protezione dei dati personali" the treatment of personal data aims exclusively at the organization and management of the contest, including possible concerning publications. Entering the competition implies the unconditional acceptance of all the aforesaid clauses, with the implicit authorization to publish name, photograph, received prize, and winning poem of the competitors in newspaper and internet articles, social networks, television programs and other web pages (www.circoloiplac.com). The mention of authors' names is compulsory, according to the Art. 20 del DPR n.19 del 8/01/1979. The competitors are responsible for all poems which are entered as being unpublished and original works, of which they remain rights holders. "Progetto Alfa" declines all responsibility for any possible plagiarism and/or illegal act on the part of the participants-such offense being punishable by the Italian special law 22 April 1941, n° 633 "Diritto d'autore".

With the authorization to process personal data (in the case of minors provided by a parent or legal guardian), it is ensured that all info will exclusively be used within the competition's scope according to the Italian law 675 del 31/12/96 e D.L. 196/03. The data controller/holder is "Progetto Alfa OdV, via Maurizio Quadrio n.27, Sondrio". According to the Italian law art. 7 del D. Lgs. 196/2003, every competitor has right to access personal data and/or have it erased, or oppose the treatment by contacting the organizational secretariat. Depending on possible and unquestionable decisions of the organization, due to any hindrance or for reasons of force majeure, norms and contents of these participation rules can undergo variations and/or cancellations.
